Abstract:
Numerous species of the diverse ant genus Cardiocondyla have been reported from
countries in Southeast Asia, but as yet nothing has been known about their presence in Myanmar.
A short, preliminary survey documents the occurrence of at least five species of Cardiocondyla in
anthropogenically disturbed areas, such as gardens and parks. The species most commonly sampled
has been determined as C. tjibodana, other specimens as C. parvinoda, C. obscurior, C. itsukii and
one or two taxa of the unresolved C. kagutsuchi complex. Further studies, in particular in more natural
habitats, will certainly reveal the presence of additional species of this highly interesting genus.
